Summertime is upon us, which often means fun in the sun! As your family hits the road for their summer vacation, keep in mind that your hotel may not be following all of the necessary safety requirements for their pool area. Non-slip surfaces, safety vacuum release systems and secure fencing are all standards that hotels must meet to keep their swimming facilities safe for their guests.

In this video blog, Marcus Fernandez of Kinney, Fernandez & Boire reviews the different types of safety standards and what to do if you or a loved one is injured in a hotel pool accident.

“What should you do if injured in a hotel pool accident?” Vlog Transcript:

“The hotels and motels can be held liable for drowning deaths. Although not required to have a lifeguard on duty, oftentimes, you’ll see a sign posted, “No lifeguard on duty. Swim at your own risk.” There are a number of safety standards that they’re required to have. Anti release valves on the suction part of the pool. They’re supposed to store chemicals. They’re supposed to have fencing and a number of other safety features to ensure that you or a family member doesn’t accidentally drown. If that’s something that has happened, reach out to an experienced attorney that has handled these cases before.”
